I’m interested in…

  • Accessibility

Accessibility can be a daunting task for teams so I can help make it painless and we often don’t know where to start. These will make your product accessible to most users: correct low colour contrast, make sure all interactive elements can be tabbed and use the right labels. I can do a simple auditing of your product and create tickets that can easily be picked up by engineers.

  • Mental health support

Offices can be difficult places when we struggle with our mental health, especially when don’t feel we can bring our whole self to work. In 2022, I passed a Mental Health First Aider accreditation so I can support people in crisis and direct them towards the right professional help. I do my best to create spaces where colleagues can express themselves without judgement or stigma.

  • Plain language

Have you ever read a work email and realised you can’t make sense of it? Have you ever been exhausted after reading a strategy document with unclear purposes and convoluted sentences? I’ve made it my mission to write communications in a way everyone can understand, regardless of their reading level or expertise. We can communicate better if we talk plainly to each other.

About me

I started my career as a web designer in 2011, essentially theming websites for small businesses. For the next few years, I worked my way towards a more user-centred approach. If no one was willing to talk to the customer, I would!

In 2014, I decided to become a freelance UX designer so I could bring fresh eyes to a variety of projects and workplaces. I’ve always worked well with engineers and I believe the design of a product should be owned by the whole team. I would love to work on products and services that really matter to people, whether they’re hospital patients, small businesses managing their cashflow or people in financial difficulty.

I grew up with technology, playing on tape-operated CPC 464 and Atari ST and writing my first terrible text-based adventure in BASIC at 12. Now as an adult, I love playing tabletop roleplaying games and I occasionally write my own scenarios for my friends. I’m fascinated by game systems and behaviours they encourage or discourage to create a unique flavour.

In my own time, I also love playing cosy video games, roller skate, getting lost in a Wikipedia rabbit hole and collecting all sort of teas.
